It’s always surprising how hard we scrutinize our flaws, yet others rarely notice such imperfections. Scars in particular carry so much trauma that manifested into physicality, so very much like recieving a tattoo, scars are windows into past stages in life. In her case, she didn't want to cover up a childhood scar from a life-saving operation, but instead asked for an art piece that celebrates her life and the journey that taught her to learn to embrace this very scar.
