Microrealistic tattoos or microrealism is a relatively new and emerging tattooing style that uses a gradual, layering, fine needle approach to achieve a gradient control for a photographic level of detail in the dimensions of an actual photograph.
This style is typically achieved thanks to the improvements made with tattoo machines, needles and inks. The smallest details in this tattooing style are typically achieved with a single needle or one round liner, which has a single needle tip, but different needles such as 3RL and 5RL are also used for fillings or less detailed parts of the tattoo. This type of needles enable artists to add more precision to their work, and allows for more details in a compacted space.
