description
Scarabs were popular amulets in ancient Egypt, modeled after the dung beetle. They survive in large numbers and, through their inscriptions and typology, they are an important source of information for archeologists and historians of the Ancient world. The scarab is meant to represent the heavenly cycle; much like what the sun god, Ra, does when he rolls across the sky transforming souls and bodies.
